In 2016 Love Food Hate Waste supported Asda’s Community Life Champions on a campaign to help customers help save food from being wasted by making the most of their freezer, called ‘Easy Freezy’.

‘Easy Freezy’ activities took place in 350 stores across the UK, with customers getting involved in games to find out facts from Love Food Hate Waste about foods that can be frozen (for example, ‘Did you know that you can freeze eggs?’).

Every customer who took part received accessories to help them save more food including ice lolly moulds (for freezing leftover fruit juice and smoothies) and ice cube trays (for freezing small amounts of leftovers such as pesto, wine, beer and stock), and a leaflet full of food saving top tips and recipes.

‘Easy Freezy’ top tips were also available at till points as well as on the Asda website. Overall their Champions engaged with approximately 27,000 customers during the campaign.

In addition, Asda’s consumer food magazine ‘Good Living’ included several articles on saving food, using tips, tricks facts and figures from Love Food Hate Waste. ‘Good Living’ also featured articles on Asda’s outreach efforts in the community on surplus food redistribution.
